I'm not a botanist by training and highly respect those in the profession that dedicate themselves to collecting specimens and learning plant taxonomy. I love hiking and taking photographs of plants and have done so for many years and by doing so I have become interested in the identification of plants. I first became interested in learning about plants (especially first-hand encounters with poison oak) as a teenager by exploring the Santa Monica Mountains. I then got interested in the plants of San Diego by becoming a docent at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve for over ten years after obtaining degrees in Biology from SDSU. I'm a retired biology professor from San Diego Mesa College where I taught a variety of courses over my four decades of teaching. My residence is nearby Mission Trails Regional Park where I have appreciated the many trails and plants growing in the park. My free time of being retired has allowed me to create this website for your use and enjoyment.
